6 Easy Ways To Improve Your Resume
Your resume is your first impression. Companies receive so many resumes that they don’t have a lot of time to spend on each one. You must get your point across quickly. Some helpful hints are as follows:
1. Sell Yourself – Present yourself well upfront because the readers are in a hurry and only have so much time to spend on your resume. Make it interesting so they want to keep reading.
2. Spell Out Your Skills – If you have been away from the workforce, you should explain your skills in the beginning so people know what you can do.
3. Job Objective – Using a job objective can help you zero in on your own thoughts and help the reader understand more about you. It makes you spend time thinking about what you want to do. It should contribute to the story you are trying to tell about yourself.
4. Keep It Focused – Keep your resume short and to the point. Every word counts. It says something about you if it is organized well and easy and interesting to read.
5. Use Keywords – Readers are often looking for something specific when they are reviewing resumes. Also some companies use scanners to sort through resumes. Things like teamwork and flexibility are important. Think about your skills and make sure you list the important words.
6. Tell Your Story – Read over your resume and make sure it tells your story – why they should hire you. The information presented should build a picture of who you are.
